Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials aims to help organisations of all sizes, implement basic levels of protection against a large majority of internet attacks, demonstrating to their customers and partners that they take cyber security seriously

Cyber Essentials - an independently verified self assessment. Organisations assess themselves against five basic security controls and a qualified assessor verifies the information provided.
Organisations that undertake Cyber Essentials are encouraged to re-certify on a annual basis and where appropriate, progress their security.

What’s Included?

Five basic controls within Cyber Essentials were chosen because, when implemented correctly, they will help to protect against a majority of internet-based attacks:

• Boundary firewalls and internet gateways
• Secure configuration
• Access control
• Malware protection
• Patch management

Since October 2014 Cyber Essentials has been mandatory for suppliers of Government contracts which involve handling personal information and providing some IT products and services.
